Music has the power to stop stressed out office workers, rushed train commuters, delivery men and even security guards. Jazz, classical and rock spilling into the streets of Newark during lunchtime, drowning out the symphony of street noise. Playing Jazz on the streets of Newark

Lonnie Younglood moved to Newark from Georgia as a teenager and found work playing in jazz bands on what was then a thriving club circuit. He went on to a successful recording career while Newark’s jazz scene declined. Decades later, Youngblood has returned to Newark to participate in a downtown revitalization effort that recruits musicians to perform in the streets. (Video by Jonathan Schuppe /The Star-Ledger)
