Flying in a B-17 bomber

The Experimental Aircraft Association has a fully restored B-17 bomber, “Aluminum Overcast,” at the Essex County Airport through Sunday for tours and rides. Bob Wilcox, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force who served in World War II, took a flight in it yesterday with Christopher Gomez, his grandson. Wilcox recalled when he rode a B-17 through a storm more than 60 years ago, en route to Washington State from Texas. The restored plane will also be at Trenton-Mercer Airport Tuesday and Wednesday.
