The sculpting surgeon

Whether he is in the operating room or in his backyard studio in Montclair, surgeon Joe Benevenia is always sculpting. An orthopedic oncologist at University Hospital in Newark, Benevenia is also an accomplished sculptor, working mostly with found metals. He is currently working on “The Passage of Hope,” a six-piece work commissioned by the UMDNJ Cancer Center for its lobby in Newark. (Video by Nyier Abdou)
