Living in a Newark apartment touched by Tamika Riley and Sharpe James

Jopetia Garretson, 28, lives with her two young daughters in an apartment building that was bought and flipped by Tamika Riley, the ex-mistress of former Newark Mayor Sharpe James. It was one of six properties Riley flipped, earning about $600,000 in profit. But many of the new owners and tenants have suffered. Garretson’s daughters suffer from elevated lead levels, asthma and other breathing difficulties. They fend off mice and roaches. Now Garretson just wants to move out.
